Champions League picks week1

Here my picks for the UEFA champions league round 1 (to be played tuesday and wednesday. The long road towards, arguably the highest regarded prize in soccer, the CL finale in Madrid May 2010 starts this week with the socalled group phase. From the 8 groups the 2 teams with the best record will advance to the knock out phase that will start early 2010.

My early favorites to win it all are Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid. Bayern Munich and Internazionale. Dark horses include Liverpool, Arsenal, Standard Liege, Juventus, Fiorentina and Bordeaux.

Well here my pick for the first week´s matches take a look .

Atletico Madrid - Apoel 3-0 (1,19/8,4/20)

At home Atletico will be hard to beat.

Besiktas-Manchester United 1-1 (7,4/4,3/1,55)

It will be a draw. Crowd will get crazy.

Chelsea - Porto 2-1 (1,43/4,8/9,6)

It will be difficult to score against Porto which always seems able to score in counter attack fashion.

FC Zurich - Real Madrid 1-3 (13,5/5,5/1,33)

Unless underestimation is catching up with Madrid they will pull out the expected win.

Juventus - Bordeaux 2-1 (1,6/3,95/7,6)

The guys from Torino will have to work hard to beat the Girondins from Bordeaux.

Maccabi Haifa - Bayern Munich 1-2 (8/4,5/1,52)

Will be an emotional game but Bayern will prevail.

Marseille - AC Milan 3-1 (2,48/3,35/3,25)

AC Milan is in the process of rebuilding, Marseille is hot.

Wolfsburg - CSKA Moskou 2-1 (1,9/3,9/4,5)

Wolfsburg not doing well in the bundesliga but CSKA should be beaten.

Dynamo Kiev - Rubin Kazan 3-2 (2,06/3,45/4,2)

Ukrain-Russian match up. Kiev at home will be stronger in the end.

Internazionale - Barcelona 3-1 (3,05/3,35/2,6)

Inter is fired up by remarks of Ibrahimovich the Swedish striker who went from their side to Barcelona. Zlatan will discover that playing with Materazzi is easier than playing against him.

Liverpool - Debrecen 5-0 (1,12/10,5/32)

Debrecen making its debut on the highest level should be prepared for a hard landing.

Lyon - Fiorentiana 1-3 (1,86/3,7/5)

Fiorentina star Mutu is so loaded with debt that he needs to guide his side as far as possible in the Champions League.

Olympiakos - AZ Alkmaar 1-3 (2,1/3,55/3,85)

The Dutch champs will be eager to show their skills after a devastating loss in the Dutch league last Saturday.

Sevilla - Unirea Urziceni 2-0 (1,23/6,8/18)

Sevilla will win.

Standard - Arsenal 2-1 (7,4/4,4/1,55)

Upset in the making here. Standard is a very tough team to beat at home.

Stuttgart - Glasgow Rangers 3-1 (1,67/3,9/6,4)

It will show the Bundesliga is a stronger league than the Scottish.
